Bags of Love
Scholarship

The Bags of Love Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization focused on helping kids who are going through cancer by providing the support and love needed to get through it all. Love conquers all. Let’s do our part to help give hope to those who need it most. The Bags of Love Foundation was founded by Cancer for College scholarship recipient Julian Castaneda.

Be Like Nick
Scholarship

In 2023, the GFYC Foundation launched the “Be Like Nick” Scholarship in memory of Nick Johnson. This unique scholarship not only upholds the Foundation’s core values but also emphasizes the transformative power of mentorship. Applicants are asked to share how mentorship has influenced their lives and will shape their future endeavors.

Scholarships

In addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must either be from or attending school in the states of North or South Carolina.

Cherry Hawk
Scholarship

The Cherry Hawk Scholarship honors Taylor “The Hawk” Richardson, Gene “Cherry” Ward and all the “Fallen Hawks” who left behind a legacy of joy for the sporting life.

The Cherry Hawk Scholarship is open to students from or attending school in Southern California. Students should aspire to become sports professionals, studying a sports-related field.

Scholarship

Created by Cancer for College Scholarship recipient Frank Lozoya. In addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must be attending, or planning to attend, California State University, Fullerton.

Scholarship

Created in memory of Ari Jay Bluman, Lorraine Rudy and Steve Feldman and funded by GFYC Foundation Inc, the Go and Be Great Scholarship will be awarded to a student who will use their education to inspire others to live their life to the fullest. Someone who is a visionary, a leader and a loyal friend. In addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must share their favorite movie line.

Scholarship

This scholarship is in memory of Henry Joseph Streuli and will be awarded to a student who will use their education to advance a world that is filled with Henry’s love of life. In addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must either be from or attending school in the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, or Montana.

The mission of the Jackson Byck Scholarship is to help create a college future for those both in financial need and who have fought the fight to beat cancer. As Jackson was an avid gamer, special consideration will be made for those pursuing a career in gaming, computers, marketing, engineering, science, and medicine. In Jackson’s memory, scholarships will be awarded through Cancer for College.

The Kay Salzetti Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to supporting first-generation college students majoring in business or entrepreneurship. This award reflects Kay Salzetti’s passion for empowering ambitious individuals to overcome barriers and achieve academic and professional success.

Scholarship

The Lindner Family Scholarship awards $10K each year to a cancer survivor from or attending school in Southern California. All majors welcome to be considered during the application process.

Scholarship

The Vanderby Family Scholarship honors Mike Vanderby, a cancer survivor and one of the first recipients of Cancer for College’s scholarships. Now supported by the Vanderby Family Foundation, this award is for student-athletes, particularly volleyball players, from San Diego County, continuing Mike’s legacy of perseverance and excellence.

Scholarship

Created in memory of Skip and Jan Wohl, who lived their lives to the fullest. In addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must be from and attending school in Southern California.

Zach Cohen Memorial
Scholarship

Zach Cohen passed away at the age of 21 after a brutal fight with sarcoma. In his memory, a fund has been set up to help other young survivors who share his dream to attend college and thrive beyond cancer.  There are no restrictions for candidates. Simply apply to the general scholarship application and all who qualify will be included automatically.
